The "Tack" rating system has been part of PayPerPost for quite some time. Bloggers can rate Advertisers and vice versa. With the release of Beta 3 Tacks have become extremely important, especially for Bloggers. Tacks provide us with an indication of the quality of each blog posting. We aggregate the scores and use them to determine an overall Tack rating for the blogger. In order to maintain the quality of the system we urge all advertisers to take the time to rate each post made for your opportunities.
This score effects which opportunities bloggers are eligible for and ultimately help us provide a higher quality network for our users.

The tacks are too hard to use if your doing any volume of posts. When you have even 20-30 posts from your opportunity it's hard to read them all, and it's even harder to keep them straight enough to know which user to give tacks to. Here is my suggestion: Make it so we can read the post in a little box and then give tacks right under the post text. Otherwise you have to switch back and forth between two windows/tabs and everything is hard to keep track of.Until you do something like this there is no way I can give tacks to the majority of posts, it just takes too much time.Another idea would be to use some sort of frameset that allows me to read the posts in order and give tacks to each post (maybe a slim frame at the top, and a large content frame for the posts). Anyways this needs some major help to be usable.

Just a word to the advertiser from a blogger who writes a lot of opportunities for many of you:1. Thank you for all of the opportunities that you've provided. I appreciate the work.2. Please use the ban button carefully.I don't mean to speak out of turn, but I'm not sure how much the advertisers know about the ban button and what it does - so here's one Posties opinion, after reading the forums for a whole week and seeing what other posties have been saying:The bloggers don't know much about the ban button, but what we do know is that when an advertiser uses it, it completely bans the BLOGGER - not the post, not the blog, but the blogger, who may have more than one blog on Payperpost. Also, at the moment, unless things have changed, when you ban us we also lose -.5 tacks from our possible 5 tack rating. This affects other advertisers, and our ability to write for them as well, since our tack ratings will decrease. Most of the "posties" believe that the advertisers should have a right to ban bloggers, or blogs whom they don't feel are doing a very good job with the advertising opportunities.By all means, if you feel it's justified, go ahead and ban a blogger. Just realize that you are affecting more than just the one blog that you might be viewing if the blogger has more than one site in the system, and also that you are affecting the bloggers ability to write for other advertisers. (Unless the system of taking -5 tack off when a blogger is banned changes)

When I first came to the forums, some people mentioned not even knowing what the tacks were. Some of us were using them to note which opps we'd take first. We certainly weren't doing that to rate an advertiser! I wonder now if anyone who did that and now has bans, has those bans because an advertiser didn't like the rating we gave them (even though we didn't know we were doing that).Something to think about regarding the banning and why the posties aren't given more information about it.And I agree with what Tricia said.

If you leave a bad review or lower the tacks, the advertisers bomb you with a ban.In this system, the advertisers censor you by punishing you.

I am quite frustrated with the tack system. Perhaps I haven't used PayPerPost enough yet to get an accurate reading on my tacks, but I have had no votes. If what Justin said about the difficulty of use is true, then maybe I would suggest not putting limitations on what opportunities posties can take based on their tack score until you can get the kinks worked out of the system. I would love to post on more opportunities, but can't get my 3 posts per blog a day in because of not having any tacks. All of the opportunities are in the red and it's mostly because of my "lack of tack" if I may. Also my google page rank is still not acurate. This is very frustrating to me and I have a hard time recommending my blogging friends to PayPerPost because of it.

I am a postie. A good one too, if I must say it myself. LOL. But I have seven bans. I am not going to worry about it for now 'cos I have a lot more faith in PPP. Don't just kick us out based on the number of bans because advertisers are humans like us and probably they just hate purple and my blog colour doesn't match with their photo or something? You get what I mean? (refer to tricia's comment for more serious reading)

hello. I have to agree with other bloggers that the tack system is confusing, along with PR and Alexa. Because I am still bit new, I just try to be patient. Normally, I can use a program or website easily. Anyway, it took my blog awhile to get approved because I didn't know about the 20 blog requirement, and all the rest of the blog requirements (must have taken over a month to figure out ) I think it's better if the terms of service are in obvious places, like big and bold. I had to dig around and find the terms in small link. Also, the disclosure policy requirement should be in obvious place too, i couldn't figure out why my blog wasn't getting approved. Anyway my tack is 3, but my google is still NA so's alexa, even though I have over 70 visitors/day on my site. I had over 400 visitors each week, so I think I should have some rank already. But i will wait and see how that goes, because I still don't understand the opportunity where it's based on PR/Alexa..bc I can open the opp page. If we are not qualified, we shouldn't be able to access it.. otherwise, we may write the post and then not get paid bc we're not qualified. Anyway, I think if we are up to writing a certain post, then we shouldn't be limited just bc of our ranking...which may not be accurate even.anyway, hope it will be better soon. But I thank payperpost for their hardwork. I'm just sharing my thoughts and hope these confusions don't have to happen to new posties.

I know for some of us the tack system was used for our own information, with no thought of it being any type of rating system for the advertisers. It does appear from all indications that BANS are being used as a punishment for bloggers based on tacks that have previously been given. This system as it stands is likely to hurt both individual bloggers and the business model.

I realize that advertisers mean money, but if they can ban me and ALL my blogs based on one post in one blog, with their tack, why shouldn't I be able to ban them when I use tack? Only seems fair, neh?
